I wasn't holding out much hope. We had come to see the grand unveiling of the mighty Assiniboine only to find she wasn't accepting visitors on this evening. So we waited. And waited some more. With my fellow photographers 100 feet below me, I was out of sight, so I danced to stay warm. It didn't work... but I didn't stop. If you ever see someone doing the Macarena or the moon walk in the cliff tops, he/she is probably a photographer trying to beat the cold while waiting for good light.
A bird passed overhead, laughing at me. Silly human. I suddenly felt self conscious. Then a cloud enveloped us completely and my heart sank even further. But then without warning, it happened. In fact everything happened. As the cloud passed by us, the scene changed completely. Light began pouring into the valley. The lakes began to calm. And Assiniboine herself peaked out to give us a royal wave hello. Naturally I panicked. I wasn't nearly ready for a light show this epic. I couldn't capture all this could I? Well...
The ones who came before us appropriately named this valley, 'Sunburst Valley.' Clearly this awesome spectacle has been witnessed before.
3 shots wide, focus blended on the left side. I left my compadre Vlad Sadovsky in the frame for a bit of scale and human element.
