Fog forms in a river valley below Mt St Helens, while the Milky Way whirls overhead.
This photos (and all of the photos I took this particular morning in mid February) have been on hold for a while. Honestly I had a lot of trouble post processing them. I took a couple of panoramics that pretty much refuse to be stitched together in PS, despite being shot with a nodal slide. And there was something about the high humidity in the air on this particular morning that caused me a lot of problems with post processing of all the photos, this one included.
Much of the foreground, particularly in the valley, and the sky had a gauzy, undefined look to it, and I had to use a tremendous amount of care in working with contrast and saturation adjustments. I nearly went extremely desaturated or monochromatic with it, but decided not to at the very end. Maybe I should have and you'll see another version at a later date. In the mean time, thanks for taking a look at this one!
I have a single spot left in my summer night-sky photography workshop at Crater Lake, Oregon. Follow the link for more details.
