I have some great new workshop offerings to announce including Hawaii(Big Island and Kauai), The deserts of California, and Autumn in Oregon. Head to my workshop webpage for all the details!
This is a shot from the well known Cinque Torri during maybe not so well known conditions. A huge snow snow storm the day before covered the otherwise sparse winter landscape, and made for perfect conditions the next morning for sunrise. Add to that some fantastic high winds, and you get some blowing snow sastrugi(the wind-swept lines in the snow) awesomeness. I visited the dolomites last winter for a week, and this was all I came back with! Sometimes that's how it goes, but I still think this shot was worth it.
I actually shot this handheld believe it or not. I was busy running around trying to figure out a comp when I finally found this right when the light and wind were at it's best. My tripod was 50 yards away through thick snow and I had no time to go get it. Upping my ISO slightly helped me grab quick enough shutter speeds for the FG shots, and shooting the BG was no issue due to the strong light there. Ultimately it was about 5 shots, 3 for FG, mixing together different areas to clean it up, and then two shots for dynamic range in the BG.
Hope you like it!
