Some of the theories range from soft-sediment deformation, Jurassic-period landslides, sand volcanoes...none of which mean much to me. My theory involves ancient ketchup swirled around with some mayo though I'm fairly certain the scientific community will not recognize that. But I'll keep spreading the rumor anyway.
