By the time we reached Arch Rock at Joshua Tree National Park, most of the Milky Way was now visible and we set about shooting it for an hour or so. We had a spectacular sunset that night, but we were were worried that the cloud cover would block the Milky Way when it finally rose over Arch Rock. As it turned out, the high clouds thinned out a bit and actually threw some extra light around the sky.
I would love to take credit for the lighting of the arch in this shot, but I'm thinking this was probably the result of Tom Bricker trying to adjust his camera with the red beam on his head lamp. The fiery glow in the corner is from the ambient light most likely from nearby Indio.
(I used the Rokinon 12 mm 2.8 fisheye for the ultra wide angle in this shot.)
