Walk The Path
The Narratographer - United Kingdom

Do you record life, or do you live it? Surely, you cannot do both. We are not the ones strolling hand in hand, along the beach with our partners. We are stood there in the shadows, in silence; alone. We are the observers, watching others exist, whilst we do not. The world is a circus of lies and chaos; and we have a front row seat. The weather this morning was very much like my mood. It was angry, swollen and without care. The waves crashed into the rocks upon where I stood as if it couldn’t see me, chiselling the face of Pulpit Rock into something new. We are all shaped by the weather that we walk into, be it a gentle sunlight that breathes life into us or a thunderous wind that tears us limb from limb. As the moments of life tumble into each other, we start to take on a completely different appearance, both inwards and outwards. We have little or no control over what the winds of change may do to us. Our only hope is to hide, to take shelter from the storm and to listen from a distance to the incessant storm. But we return, day after day, for whatever our destiny has in store for us. We do it because we love - the most painful human weakness. My camera, like I, got battered this morning by waves that came in from the sea and coated us both in showers of misty water. This was the only image I managed to get that wasn’t speckled with droplets of annoying spray. Having arrived at Pulpit Rock, I watched as the sea thundered in and crashed into the rocks. Every few seconds, the waves would heave upwards and lurch over the crooked path you see before you. I had to slide along that slippery precipice, my tripod and camera slung over my shoulder. One hand on the rocks and the other grasping a pair of crossed fingers. For a moment, I paused, as the path was carved to its narrowest. Another wave rumbled towards me, sensing I was at my weakest and readied itself for the kill. I took a look forward, threw a frightened glance over my shoulder and closed my eyes. I skidded and slipped towards the widening path and managed to escape the seas angry spit. I lived to fight another day. Just.
